ANALOGUE CAMERAS OR NETWORK CAMERAS ???

This is the first decision to be taken when thinking of a CCTV system.

WEB is full of detailed answers on these subject.
Many IP camera manufacturers claim that IP cameras are the new trend and analogue CCTV systems belong to the past. Many analogue camera makers pretend not to consider the existence of alternative digital solutions.

Today over 80% of new CCTV systems are made of analogue cameras which send a TV style signal to DVR's or TV monitors. Analogue system still have significant benefits in terms of lower price of components, working stability and easy maintenance.
Nevertheless in many realities IP systems provide a level of performance that cannot be reached using analogue systems.

A FEW SCENARIOS WHERE IP CAMERAS PROVIDE SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS

LAN cables in place
If a LAN network is already in place, connecting IP cameras to the existing cables is normally cheaper than making a new analogue structure.

Max resolution required
Latest generation megapixel cameras provide an image resolution that cannot be reached with analogue cameras.

System is very large
Using IP switches a LAN can be divided in several branches and can easily cover even a large building. In analogue CCTV all cameras must be wired to DVR, therefore wiring large systems could be more expansive.

Wireless connection
Several netwrok cameras include Wi-Fi transmitter and can be connected to a wireless LAN with no need of wires, but the power plug. Wireless analogue transmission is limited to very few channels and quite short range.

2-ways audio
DSE network cameras come with microphone input and speaker output allowing bi-directional audio communication without any extra wiring required.

BE CAREFULL
Sometime IP cameras are preferred to analogue ones because they can be accessed from remote PC via LAN or Internet.
These function should not be a choice criteria because digital DVR's of analogue systems can do it as well.

DSE IP cameras are fully digital CCTV devices which can be connected to any hard-wired or Wi-Fi PC network (LAN). These cameras do not generate an analogue TV signal, but a digital video streaming, ready to be played by personal computers.

CCTV on IP network
With DSE IP cameras you can create a CCTV system without using any analogue TV device. No coaxial cables, video-recorder or TV monitors are required. IP cameras connect straight to a LAN IP network that can be specifically designed for the CCTV system or even already existing and used for PC's communication.
Any PC of the network can monitor the cameras therefore, unlike analogue systems, there is no need of TV monitors.
Videos are generally recorded using special IP surveillance software.

Hard-wired and Wire-less
If your network includes Wi-Fi access points, several IP cameras in the range include Wi-Fi transmitter and can be connected to the network without wires. All you need for the cameras is a power plug.
Wi-Fi antenna is available on several models in both Megapixel and VGA product range.

Power supply
All DSE IP cameras can be powered by the power adaptor which is included in the package. Many models, (not the Wi-Fi ones), also support PoE technology which allows powering the camera via the LAN cable, using PoE switches or PoE injectors.

MEGAPIXEL or VGA resolution?
DSE IP cameras are available in 2 ranges that meet different market requirements:
VGA IP CAMERAS: Providing 640x480 max. resolution with MPEG4 compression (VGA resolution is similar to analogue cameras).
MEGAPIXEL CAMERAS: Providing 1600x1200 max resolution (2 Megapixel) with H.264 compression.
VGA cameras are suitable to most surveillance applications and are a good choice for those who are mainly looking for a high quality/price ratio. MEGAPIXEL cameras are nowadays the cameras that can provide the highest image quality and are ideal for thos
e who look for state-of-the-art performance .

Easy access via PC/MAC Internet browser
To view IP cameras over the network or the Internet you do not need anything else than a computer and an Internet browser. Cameras support most common Windows browsers like INTERNET EXPLORER and MAC browser SAFARI
.

Integrating analogue cameras in IP systems
DSE video servers allow integrating any analogue cameras or video source in an IP CCTV system, both MPEG4 (VGA) or H264 (Megapixel).

IP surveillance software
Unlike analogue systems that need all cameras to be connected to video-recorders, in IP CCTV the video-recording is usually operated over the network by IP surveillance software. All DSE IP cameras come with a free software package for recording up to 16 channels. For recording up to 64 IP cameras with advanced video analysis features the SCB-IP PRO software is also available.
DSE cameras are also compatible with most common multi-brand IP recording software (see CMS COMPATIBILITY TABLE).

Product range
DSE IP camera range includes 3 group of products:

MEGAPIXEL CAMERAS: Providing 1600x1200 max resolution (2 Megapixel) with H.264 compression.

VGA IP CAMERAS: Providing 640x480 max. resolution with MPEG4 compression (VGA resolution is similar to analogue cameras).

VIDEO SERVERS: Stand-alone decoder to integrate analogue cameras into IP systems with H.264 or MPEG4 compression.
