These cameras,
which come in a totally waterproof aluminium cylinder, are the best way to
ensure surveillance of settings where a normal camera would soon be damaged
by damp, the elements, dust or knocks.
This section describes models with long range illuminators which are
ideal for filming in large settings and open areas.
Waterproof housing
The camera is inside a robust, completely waterproof aluminium container
which guarantees a protection level of IP67, meaning that the camera
can be exposed to rain without a drop of water getting in (see the IP table
in the tutorial on housings).
This is the main advantage of DSE waterproof cameras: they are enclosed in
an indestructible, hermetically sealed shell, which means they can be used
without any protection in difficult settings such as:

settings which are completely exposed to the elements

settings with a high saline concentration

settings and factories
On boats
Compact size
Another interesting aspect of these cameras is the compact size: one product
incorporates camera, IR illuminator and external protective housing. A
traditional camera with a housing and separate illuminator would occupy much
more space and look much bulkier.
The camera
The cameras in the RE-BCC range use the prestigious colour Sony
SuperHADTM CCD (see
tutorial) at 550 TV lines
which is unbeatable in terms of luminosity and definition.
They boast high end DSP digital electronics which guarantee an
excellent signal/noise ratio,
over 50 dB.
All the RE-BCC cameras use high resolution CCD – 550 lines.
To adapt to all light conditions, including outdoors, these cameras feature
innovative electronic diaphragm technology
(with a speed of up to 1/100,000 per second), which means they can be used
outdoors without autoiris optics.
Versions
The waterproof cameras with long range illuminators are available in 2
versions with different illuminating capacities.
RE-BCC7 - 90 m illuminator
RE-BCC8 - 130 m illuminator
The lens
The
cameras are supplied with a 16 mm lens as standard, in line with the
capacity of the illuminator and for use in large areas or outdoors. The
product has been optimised for use with this lens, which cannot be changed.
The RE-BCC7/8 cameras use special high luminosity IR lenses which do not
create
focus-shift
.
The infrared illuminator
RE-BCC7/8 cameras come with a built-in infrared illuminator with a range of
illumination which varies depending on the model:
RE-BCC7 -
90 m
illuminator - 15° beam spread - 60 LED
RE-BCC8 -
130 m
illuminator - 15° beam spread - 133 LED
The cameras
have a Day/Night function and are able to function in all conditions,
including complete darkness. Like all Day/Night cameras, these deliver
colour images while there is enough light to do so. When darkness falls the
illuminator comes on automatically and B/W images are delivered. DSE cameras
with long range IR illuminators use state of the art high power LEDs which
offer surprisingly powerful illumination even in large spaces and outdoors.
Removable IR filter (ICR)
DSE cameras with long range infrared illuminators feature the latest ICR
technology (IR Cut Removable Filter) for better image quality both in
natural light and with infrared. The IR filter, indispensable for color CCD,
automatically cuts out in darkness, ensuring greater luminosity when filming
with the illuminator as well as true colors with day light.
Digital Slow Shutter (DSS)
Digital Slow Shutter is a special feature that provides extraordinary
low-light performance.
Using DSS, the RE-BCC7/8
camera is able to integrate several frames into a
single one, dramatically increasing the light level of an almost dark video.
Double Glass
All DSE IR cameras includes double-glass technology. The front glass
consists of 2 different glasses with a splitting ring.
The reason of this solution, much more expansive than traditional
rings, is too avoid any possible refraction of the LED's when
operating in night mode.
Audio
For obvious reasons of protection against
water, waterproof cameras do not come with a microphone. If you require
audio, you can connect an
external microphone which is easily fitted between the camera and the
Audio/Video connector cable.
Bracket
RE-BCC7/8
cameras are supplied with a practical swivel bracket for wall-mounting.
RE-BCC7 come with
cable management bracket. Unlike
traditional brackets, that leaves the wiring visible outside, these brackets
with cable management protect the cables from wearing out and against
tampering attempts.
Wiring
Like the other hard-wired cameras, these cameras can be connected directly
to a TV or monitor by means
of an audio/video cable (Audio OUT and Video OUT).
On the back of the container there is a
waterproof conduit bearing a 1 m cable which contains: wiring for the 12VDC
power supply (terminal board with 2 positions) and video cable (BNC female).
It is possible to use a stabilised 220VAC / 12VDC power adaptor. In view of
the consumption of the LED (RE-BCC7: 670 mA / RE-BCC8: 1440 mA max.) we
recommend using at least a 2A power adaptor, like model
RE-AL5 (not included).
RE-BCC7 has dual-power and accept 24VAC power as well.
To connect the camera to the monitor or
TV there is a 20 m cable already supplied with RCA Audio/Video terminals and
power supply jack (RE-CT1). If you need to cover
a greater distance, you will need to use
RG59 coaxial cable.
By connecting the camera to an external transmitter like
RE-TX2/3/48/5, it can be
integrated into a RadioEye® wireless system.
