Digital video recorders store data on one or more internal Hard Disks. The same 3.5" SATA HDDs used in Personal Computers are suitable for NVR and DVR. Normally our NVRs and DVRs are supplied without Hard Disk so you can combine a disk of the right capacity for your need. Although the video recorders accept any type of SATA 3.5" HDD, it is not a good choice to buy a desktop hard disk because the PC drives are not designed for non-stop reading/writing, 24 hours a day, and would end up having a short life and poor performance.
These Western Digital Purple Series hard disks are instead designed for uninterrupted, 24/7, writing and guarantee the reliability and durability required in video surveillance applications.
Thanks to the IntelliSeek™ technology, the WD Purple Hard Drives optimize the seek speed reducing the power consumption and the noise compared to the normal disks for desktop. The exclusive AllFrame™ technology also improves the ATA stream for smooth playback of recorded videos.
WD Purple HDDs support a workload of 180TB/year, more than three times that of a normal desktop disk, with an MTBF (Average Time Between Failures) of 1.5 million hours. WD PUrple discs guarantee the reliability and durability needed for your video security system.
We guarantee a 3-year warranty, both for private and corporate purchases, on all WD Purple HDDs for video surveillance that you purchase from us. If your Hard Disk fails, you will have replaced it in a short time. Please use the buttons below to check if your disc is under warranty on the base of the serial number or to open the RMA procedure to return your disc.

To choose the right hard disk for your application you need to know how much video storage it can contain. Obviously this data depends on the number of cameras, video resolution and video compression. To roughly calculate the amount of recording hours a disc can contain you can use our online calculator. You can select H265 + compression, which is supported by all our NVRs and DVRs.HARD DISK CALCULATOR FOR CCTV
